Suite For Strings

Description

The Suite for Strings features four distinct movements built around a central motif played in movement 1. The. Movements are as follows:

1. Serenade
2. Fuoco
3. Elegy
4. Minuet and Finale

The piece of music is a love story. The serenade introduces the love theme in measure 11. After one lover professes love to the other, a fight breaks out in movement 2, fuoco. This fast, fierce movement is in the style of a traditional Mexican danzon, and features the theme across multiple different lines. The 3rd movement is all about heartbreak, remorse, and regret. The love theme is heard throughout this movement, as snippets of the first line act as the ostinato the moving chords are under. The final movement is the lovers realization that he can get his love back, and the minuet is about the lover running to the other lover. The ending starts out like the beginning, with almost the exact same instrumentation as the serenade.
